Describe how it felt the first time you held your Adalyn in your arms. Adalyn smiled at me when I held her for the very first time. It was an instant connection and bond that nobody can quite understand until it happens to them. She laid on me so content and happy while the other doctors were finishing up. There was nothing else I could focus on but my little family.
How has being a mom changed you as a person? Being a mom comes with a lot that I really didn't expect when I was pregnant. I didn't know that most of the friends you had slowly backed away while new mommy friends took the front seat. Also the whole sleep deprivation thing kinda took me by surprise! Everyone says you're going to be trying to clean every second you can, but honestly I just nap with her! We both need the sleep and your babies won't always want you to cuddle them while they sleep!
What’s the best part about being a mom? The best part of being a mom is getting to watch this beautiful child grow and learn in front of you every single day. You teach them how to give hugs, blow kisses, say mama and dada, and help them walk. Then when they do it on their own, you feel so proud that happy tears start to fall! I absolutely love watching Adalyn grow up. She will only experience it once.
What’s the most challenging thing? Right now I am currently going to law school part time and working part time. I miss her even if it's for a few hours, but I know I need to do this so we can have a great future. My boyfriend works full time and sometimes doesn't get home until 6, so it is really hard to get family time in. But don't forget about family time because it is so so so important!
What do you most wish you could hold onto forever about your Adalyn being little? I wish Adalyn would stay small and full of cuddles! I know they grow up so darn fast, but the little toes and nose get me every time! And it breaks my heart knowing that one day I will want to snuggle up with my little girl and she won't be so little anymore! But until then, I will take every second to cuddle and play with her toes!
What are your child-rearing philosophies? Haha! Those all went out the window when we tried getting our daughter to sleep in her own crib! She still sleeps with us! Every child is different so not every philosophy will apply to their circumstances.
If you could give a word of advice or encouragement to other moms, what would it be? Remember to always take a step back and breathe when it gets hard. Remind yourself that these beautiful babies won't want to stay little like we want them to. They will grow so fast and you can't do anything to stop it. So love on them while you have the chance!
