I chose natural deliveries for both of my children with no epidural. I felt a rush of many emotions when I first held them in my arms. I felt relief that they were born safely, pride that I had endured such a challenging experience, and overwhelming love and joy that God had given me such priceless gifts. I hope my children grow up to be people who love Jesus, others, and themselves -- in that order. I am trying to raise them to be kind, loving, respectful, and wise. I hope that they are passionate and fulfilled about the choices they make.
The most challenging thing for me about being a mom is balancing my work load of being a teacher with being a mom. I want to give my children all of me, but I also feel a strong calling and passion for teaching children who don't have some of the great opportunities that my own children have.
I LOVE singing to my children at night before bed. Each night, they get my undivided, individual attention as I pray with them and sing them their "night-night" songs. Nathanael is old enough now to choose which song I sing to him, and every night he chooses Silent Night. :-) Adrael isn't old enough to choose, but I love listening to her hum or coo along as she drifts into a dreamy, restful state.
My advice to other moms is to make the first 5 minutes of every situation the BEST it can be. The first 5 minutes of wakefulness, the first 5 minutes upon seeing your child after work, etc. For some reason these 5 minutes leave a lasting impression on how our children (and other people in our lives) feel about us.
Moms most definitely have the power to change the world. Their love, attention, advice, and teaching can help open up the amazing potential that is already stored in their children. The impact that just one person can have on the world can be exponential.
